ENGLISH CINEMAS / MOVIE THEATERS IN ROME
In my search to see one of the biggest films of the year, Joker, I realized that not all movie theaters are created equally here in the Eternal City. In my quest, I found theaters showing films in my desired viewing language, English. In this list, you will find not only normal movie theaters but ones with special events and in beautiful places, such as Villa Borghese and the Trastevere.
Detour Cine
This authentic movie theater is in the Monti district and shows special films that you need to be a member to be a part of, but it is well worth it. The cost of being a member is 5 euro, and you’ll gain access to cool events you wouldn’t see at any other old movie theater.
InTrastevere
Located in the artsy Trastevere area, this theater offers films in their original language. Look out for the “original language” marker to make sure you’re not sitting through an Italian movie.
Quattro Fontane
The newly renovated Cinema Quattro Fontane has recently reopened and boasts five nice rooms suitable for 500 people per room! Look out for “Versione originale con sottotitoli” on the website, meaning “original version with subtitles.” Wander the Monti area after your movie!
Cinema Barberini
In the lovely Piazza Barberini, you will find the grand Cinema Barberini, with an extensive selection of movies in their original language. Go crazy! (I know I will be when I see the Joker).
Farnese
Located in the Campo de’ Fiori, this cute movie theater is in a bustling area. Also- discounts if you are a university student under 26 or over 65! Perks for the young and for the old.
Space Moderno
The beautiful and grand Space Cinema is right next to the Repubblica metro station and has a vast showing of films. Space Moderno is, you guessed it, quite modern and clean.
